Multibody Dynamics Simulation Consulting

A multibody dynamics (MBD) simulation or analysis can be used to determine the dynamic response of multiple connected parts. Since these systems can be very complex, this type of simulation is usually required to predict complete system behavior. SimuTech Group’s team of FEA engineers have a combined 100+ years of multibody dynamics and kinematics consulting experience to guide you in maximizing performance, safety, efficiency, and cost-savings in your project.

MBD Simulation Analysis

The Ansys suite of software contains several tools that can be used for multibody dynamics simulation and analysis. These include Ansys Motion, Ansys Mechanical Rigid Body Dynamics, and Ansys LS DYNA. Older MBD tools were typically used to do kinematic studies or predict dynamic behavior utilizing solid bodies connected with certain defined constraints. A third generation MBD package like Ansys Motion can also fully incorporate flexible nodal bodies, giving one the ability to easily incorporate structural analysis into the MBD model.

Multibody dynamics simulation can be applicable to almost anything that moves, but can include:

  • Kinematic analysis to determine the kinematic behavior of a system
  • Full or partial vehicle models to determine the vehicle’s dynamic behavior
  • Powertrain simulations
  • Dynamic structural analysis
  • Analysis of chain and linkage systems

Tackle Complex MBD Challenges with Simulation

Partnering with experts and incorporating multibody dynamics simulation, analysis and kinematics consulting into your project design process can significantly enhance your understanding of system behavior and performance and can detect deficiencies without physical testing. At SimuTech Group, we offer a comprehensive range of simulation consulting services, leveraging advanced tools like the Ansys suite to tackle complex MBD challenges across various industries.

Whether you’re exploring kinematic behavior, analyzing vehicle dynamics, simulating powertrains, or assessing structural movements, our team is equipped to support your project’s kinematics consulting and multibody dynamics needs. We invite you to reach out to us to discuss how we can assist you in achieving your simulation goals in your next project.

Multibody Dynamics & Kinematics Consulting Scenarios

Actuation Analysis of Airplane Landing Gear

Multibody dynamics simulation to determine actuation forces for extension/reaction. Internal join forces also generated for static structural analysis. Results were used for component fatigue evaluation.  Bar mechanisms were used to best portray the general suggestions for the corresponding airplane design.

Kinematic Analysis of Human Movement

Biology and medicine both benefit from having a basic understanding of the kinematics of human movement. Motion analysis can be used to assess how well limbs work both normally and abnormally. Kinematic understanding is also crucial for accurate joint disease diagnosis, surgical therapy, and prosthetic device design.

Biomechanics and Gait Analysis

In a biomechanical gait analysis research, SimuTech Group engineers use the latest cutting-edge equipment to examine the position of the feet both at rest and in motion as well as the movements of the knees, hips, and spine. Our engineering team is now better able to recognize and address the biomechanical factors that lead to modifications.

Power Generation Ducting Door Actuation

Investigation into the drive power requirements for actuation of a large door used in the exhaust ducting of a gas power plant.  Advanced critical point trace plots conducted.

Kinematic Linkage Acceleration

Investigation into industrial linkage acceleration motion to determine peak internal loading. On-site field testing was employed for practical load cycle prediction for fatigue evaluation input.

Heavy Equipment Trailer Suspension

Multibody dynamics simulation of tracked trailer suspension system under terrain loading.  In addition, a system level simulation to determine interaction with controls.
